The UT Center for Space Research
is a leader and innovator in mission planning, design, and execution of spacecraft, aircraft, and ground-based campaigns. CSR expertise has led, supported and enhanced many missions that have improved our knowledge of complex processes ranging from how the Earth’s system operates to exploring questions regarding fundamental physics.
NASA's STEM Enhancement of Earth Science (SEES) Summer Intern Program is a nationally competitive STEM program for high school students. The program provides selected students with exposure to Earth and space research. Interns will learn how to interpret NASA satellite data while working with scientists and engineers in their chosen area of work.
By partnering with the Space for Teachers and Twiggs Space Lab, SEES offers a competitive selection process to fly four students and their research in microgravity onboard a parabolic aircraft. In addition, all student interns work in teams to develop ZQube microgravity experiments, flown on a teacher flight. Data and video are shared out to students and school districts post flight.
SfT has worked with over 250 NASA SEES interns in applied microgravity research projects, including ZQubes and parabolic flight. These projects have been presented at professional conferences, entered in State and National science fairs, and flown in microgravity on parabolic aircraft.
